Marchmont St. Giles has has a Family & Children’s worker since November 2014 to be a link for families within the Church and the local Community.

The remit encompasses Sunday morning services, Junior Church and Seasonal events (such as our 2015 Easter Family Event), attending and developing Toddler Group and forging links with community groups and local families along with propping up the new coffee bar in the Butterflies Café, it is a varied and broad scope.

There is a strong network with other similar workers within Edinburgh and links with groups such as Brownies and 3M’s Youth Group

Future hopes are to broaden the Church’s provision for school aged children and explore events that families can do together however familiar or new to ‘Church’ they may be.

Early Service

This informal service takes place in the Inchkeith/Inchgarvie rooms in the Church Centre starting at 9.50am. We enjoy a story and singing in a wide variety of styles and volume, along with crafts that families can do together.  A warm welcome awaits however familiar or new to ‘Church’ folk are.

Some families just join us for this Service, others move into the Morning Service and their children then go to Junior Church or a mixture of both.  We are currently exploring Parables…planting cress seeds, bees and 1st aid Kits.  Come along to find out why!

Junior Church

Families begin in the 10.30am Service together and then after 15 minutes or so, the children and group leaders go the Church Centre to their groups.

Caterpillars (up to 3 years old with some very little ones bringing a grown up) and Butterflies ( approx. 4 years) meet in the Inchkeith/Inchgarvie Rooms for stories, singing, making and play.

Rockets (Primary school years1 &2) and Comets (P3+) meet upstairs in Skye for stories, activities, crafts and music.

We aim to explore God’s world and Jesus teachings in an engaging, fun and welcoming way…also involving drinks & mini snacks!  Recent themes & activities have been Psalms, Creation & making Welcome banners for the groups.
