Marchmont St Giles’ Parish Church is a perfect venue for lectures, seminars and conferences, with various break-out spaces that can also be hired. Seating in the Church is primarily in pews and can accommodate over 300 people in one location. Break out spaces, PA facilities and catering are all available at Marchmont St Giles’.

The Church has a PA system, five radio microphones and two points for stand microphones. The Church and Cafe area both have a loop system, as does Inchcolm Hall and some of the meeting rooms. A portable DLP projector and screen can be used in the Church and the Centre has a strong Wi-Fi connection. Butterflies Cafe can provide light refreshments, as well as a choice of catering options for lunches.



Marchmont St Giles’ is situated in South Edinburgh, less than two miles from the city centre. It is well serviced by buses and there is on-street metered parking in the vicinity. There is limited on-site parking available for those with blue badges and group leaders by prior arrangement only.

Access to the Church is user-friendly with a ramp access on the north side of the Church and level access to the Church Centre at its main entrance in the north side and at the south entrance. Once inside either part of the building access to the other is by way of an internal ramp on the north side of the church. The Church currently has space for wheelchairs and carers on the north side.


Rooms for Rental

If you are looking for a venue for your group or organisation and think that we may be suitable, please contact us. We can accommodate both regular rentals and occasional one-off bookings. We rent out space for fundraising and social events; from children’s birthday parties to charity fundraising sales and concerts.

In-house catering facilities are offered by Butterflies Café. When the café is closed bookings can incorporate the use of the kitchen. Ask for further details. Outside caterers can also be used for social events by prior agreement.

Room rental starts from £15.00 per hour.


Inchcolm Hall: 12 x 8m (100m²) approx

Capacity: 60 to 100

A large well lit hall, with a high ceiling & level access. With underfloor heating, wooden panelling at lower levels. Accessible either through the centre or via door to the right of the Church. The hall has limited toilet facilities (Accessible toilet & baby change available in the Centre).



Inchkeith & Inchgarvie: 9.5 x 4.5m (42m²) approx

Capacity: up to 40 

Two rooms that open out to become one. These fully accessible rooms are located adjacent to the café seating area, with wall to ceiling glass doors that open out to form one large room with the café. The rooms have wooden floors, white walls & recessed lighting and a fixed screen.

St Giles’ Room: 14 x 4m (56m²) approx

Capacity: 20 to 40

A quiet, contemplative space accessed from the front of the church via a ramp, St Giles’ works well for groups of up to 40 people looking for a space to meet or run workshops. The stained glass windows, recessed lighting and curtained wall can create a welcoming space for a variety of activities.



Mull Room: 4.5 x 3m (14m²) approx

Capacity: 8 seated

This meeting room is located on the ground floor of the centre and includes a large table and 8 comfortable chairs. With a large window at one end to allow natural light in, electrical sockets, wifi & the option to use a projector; this room works well for meetings and seminars for small groups.



Skye Room: 4.75 x 5.75m (27m²) approx

Capacity: 8 to 15

Located up one flight of stairs, the Skye room benefits from a slightly secluded situation within the centre for groups looking for a peaceful space.  With windows on two sides, (north and east) the room can be bathed in natural light.  A single unisex toilet is located on the same level.



Butterflies Café: 11 x 5m (55m²) approx

Capacity: 35 to 60

The café seating area is a lovely, warm and inviting space, available to rent when Butterflies Café is closed. The glass roof and large windows allow lots of natural light during daylight hours and after dark, the lighting creates the perfect space for seminars, fundraising functions and smaller events.




Capacity: Up to 350 for seated events

This architecturally striking space with interesting stained glass windows, pews and wooden detailing is regularly used for worship but works well as a concert venue, exercise and rehearsal space.  There is a large, clear area (approx. 6m x 6m) at the front of the church that allows for flexibility of use.

St Andrew Room: 9 x 3.4m (31m²) approx

Capacity: 20 seated, 8 or 10 for an exercise class

Located on the first floor at the front of the church, accessed via a wide staircase, the St Andrew room has an L shaped footprint. Large leaded windows on two sides (South & West) with laminate flooring. Being located in the main Church building gives the room interesting architectural features.
